Jealous?! You're the one with the bike that can do laps underwater around Staten Island then keep going like nothing ever happened! Shit, I don't even know why you bother using the bridges into the city.

BUT, my initial ride report thus far...

When I first saw the bike the first thing struck me was that it looked very long, very low, and very mean, this fucker means business. T'was a bit intimidating sitting on it for the first time.

It's got very heavy clutch pull. In the short 2 mile ride I went on my left hand cramped up, not a city bike by any means.
Also, the friction zone is a lot closer to the bar, about half way through the lever travel. It also seems very short like it's instant engagement, on or off. I stalled about 30 times. I can get an aftermarket slave cylinder to help ease the pain but I'm hesitant to dump any money into this bike so we'll see.

The gearbox is a lot smoother and more precise than on the monster, not quite japanese smooth, but almost. The throw on the shift lever from each gear is very far especially from 1st to 2nd. I have to see about adjusting that out, hopefully I can cause if I can't I'll have to take some lessons from homeboy over here.

The bike turns in incredibly fast (scary!) but feels very stable. Just simple turns on the street using just my upper body seemed too easy, I can just imagine what it's gonna be like when I'm out on the twistys using my torso and legs to steer the bike! Holy shit.

Riding position... it's actually more comfortable than the monster. Comfortable as in shorter and higher reach to the bars. I'm glad I had the monster set up pretty aggressive cause this thing feels like a cadillac. Well, the position at least. The seat is another matter. I can't tell if it's stuffed with foam or with a headstone cause it's very hard. My ass is gonna be hurting for sure at the end of a long day, along with my left hand.

Braking. I never touched the rear brake so I can't speak to you about it but the front brake is no joke. It's strictly a 1 finger brake cause anything more than that will result in a trip over the bars. They have enormous initial bite and feel solid. No fade at all. It'll take a while to get a feel for the modulation though.

Suspension. After the initial set up, the bike feels very balanced. Admittedly it's not as cushy as the monster but then again the monster was undersprung. Preload and sag on the rear shock is already set but I still need to set up the rebound and compression damping on the front and rear which won't a big deal, I'm just glad that I have that ability to do so now.

The engine ain't no I4 or anything but the bike likes to rev. I'm not 100% certain what the redline is (I think it's 12K) but I was on the Prospect expressway for 1 exit and I got it up to 80 in 2nd gear and I was only revving at 4.5k. That's cool and all, but I've gotta reign myself in if the bike has that much more power than I'm used to, shit, I gained almost double the torque and more than 35hp.
I never cracked the throttle but just from cruising I can feel the bike's torque, the power is literally instant. I thought the same thing of the monster but then again I had nothing to compare it to. Now getting on this bike I'm getting a sense that my little monster was just that, little. Not that that's a bad thing of course, in a lot of ways I still love that bike and will miss it, but this new one is on a whole other level, it just wants to go and stretch it's legs and it'll be damned if anything get in it's way, a bit scary if you ask me.

Overall I think I've got to stay on toes. I've gotta respect the machine. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the bike right now as it does everything much faster with a lot less effort than the Monster; turning, braking, and rip your head off acceleration (when I'm not stalling the bike that is).
I'm hoping that I'll get used to this bike and that initial courting stage of this new relationship will be a short one but as of right now, it's last year in the Red Hook parking lot all over again. I'll be at the back of the pack for now thank you very much.

RIDE REPORT #2

Elise is away so I'm free to do what I want to so last night after The sultan came through to check the new ride, I watched movies until 5am.
Needless to say, I slept through my alarm, woke up late, and started my day 2 hours behind. I had no plans of riding the new sled into work but at that point, it was gonna be the fastest way in so...

It went much better than yesterday's 4 mile ride to the bank. Today's ride consisted of a whole 12 miles! Triple yesterday, TRIPLE!

My left hand didn't cramp up this time despite all the added mileage and I only stalled maybe 5 times. I'm finally starting to get a feel for the clutch.

Like I mentioned previously, the throttle response is instant. Since this was a track bike I'm thinking Dave swapped out the stock throttle cam for an aftermarket one cause the bike will rev up super quick with barely a twist of the throttle. From closed to 7k rpm, it seems like less than an eighth of a turn.
The engine eats up all the rpm's pretty quick, much quicker than the Monster. Crossing the Manhattan bridge on the way home I ran the gears out all the way up to 4th and when I looked down to check my revs I was surprised to see that I was going 110mph. What's going on? It only felt like 40mph! I suppose those fairings move all the wind away from me since I'm short cause I didn't hear it or feel it. Chalk it up to experience I suppose. I need to remember that this bike is a beast compared to my old bike and speeds are not what they seem like.

I can already feel myself falling for this bike and that's not good.
