I need to start planning this trip cause I need to block out time with work. As I said before, I want to leave on a Monday so that we're already down there and have the roads to ourselves during the midweek. ALL the roads around "Deal's Gap" aka "The Dragon" are just as good if not better than the Dragon itself, or so I've been told by some DML'ers that are local to the area.
If none of you are going, I NEED TO KNOW NOW so that I can plan accordingly; either going by myself, or hooking up with other DML'ers that will either be leaving from here around that time, or that already live down there. At this point if I go by myself, that'd be fine cause at this point I don't give a fuck cause the riding will be just too good.
As far as trip details... I'll be packing SUPER LITE. Gonna see if I can get away with just my tail bag. Will be packing underwear, socks and 1 pair of jeans or shorts. I'll buy t-shirts as I need them, and toss them when I'm done. Looking to do 2 days going, 2 days riding down there, 2 days coming back, all with a severe minimum of slab. All routes for the entire trip will already loaded into the Zumo. Looking to stay at a cheap place (Super 8 or Motel 6) the whole time. This trip won't be the most comfortable or decadent, nor will there bo too much sightseeing, this is strictly about riding and that's all. There'll be very long days on the bike with few stops apart from gas (I can go a very long time w/o stopping for food). Maybe on the way home I/we can take it easier and take in some sights but for the most part like I said, it's all about riding, so if this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then you probably shouldn't come along.
I'm shooting for early to mid September (leaving either the 3rd, 10th, or 17th). Again, I wanna leave on a Monday (4am) and get back to BK late on Saturday night (so I/we have Sunday to recoup). So PLEASE, if you can let me know this week whether you're 100% down to come or 100% not coming, I/we can start making this happen! I know D2 and Jinx are out already. Thanks y'all.

As it turns out... I've already got a few DML'ers that want to go (folks that I've already ridden with)!
you know i'm down as long as i can get the time off of work. if things keep going the way they've been (no luck with new job) then it'll be no problem getting the time off. if, by some miracle, i get a new job i'll let them know up front that i need to take some time off in september. so, either way i'm down.
i'm still down E. i have no idea what will be going on with me in sept but you know my schedule is as flexible as i want it to be. as far as the type of trip you are interested in, packing lightly, staying at a super 8, and riding all day w/o stopping much, i'm certainly down for all of that. and i appreciate you sharing your vision but well lets just say when we're down there we'll see how it plays out. for instance, i may very well take advantage of being down there in other ways and leave you/ya'll to do what you do for a day or two, go visit some peeps, sight see, find some dirt trails, whatever...cause thats how i like to do.
maybe we can even camp out a night or two while down there, that'll be cool, and save us some loot while we're at it. either way, i'm sure it'll be mad fun and well worth the time off.
yo, the po-po down there, especially on the blue ridge pkwy do not play i hear and the speed limit is like 35 mph in the whole state park. you probably already know that but just wanted to put that out there. i have a great track record for not getting tickets and the longer i can keep it that way, the better. we gotta keep our eyes peeled and E your flashing helmet gizmo will def come in handy.
Ok, after some back and forth with some folks on the DML, it's looking like September 17th is the jump off date!
let's get this crackin'! lol
i'm totally down to camp out one of the nights...i haven't done that in like 10 yrs...how would that work for e & i w/out a tent & bags though...
i have another 2 person tent that i've never used that ya'll can borrow... wait... never mind, that'll just mean i'll have to carry two tents with me. lol
Alright check this out... if you 2 wanna camp, by all me you should do so. For me, my camping days are over! After years of hiking/backpacking/camping, I consider that shit the same way I consider riding a bicycle; that shit's for the birds!
After a long day on the bike, I'd need a proper shower and some tv and some ac! But don't let me stop you, I'll be chilling on a comfy bed with the ac blasting while watching some dumbass movie on cable while y'all are getting your nature on.
If you guys are really gonna comp, will have to work out where/when to split up and regroup...
well, sounds like a dope trip, but i'm booked solid. I'm sure you'll all have a great time and surely there will be stories to tell when you get back.
