big things...or maybe little ones
so, i figured now is a good time to bring this up again. dues. $5 a month, more if you want, we can get a business acct somewhere and start doing something collectively, maybe even get a clubhouse somewhere, but at the very least collect to have money for patches and stickers and shirts. from there we could work on things like getting a bike lift and tools for repairs and mods. oh, and maybe we caould start doing some productive things too, like having toy runs and shit, or at least donate a little change to agencies who are looking out for rights of motorcyclists. just my $.02.

check this out.
I'm SOOO down for that. We can set up a paypal account like...
SKDMRKSMOTO@gmail.com
so's we can post our dues. More members, more money, more we can do. We can have tech/maintainence collective and all that. Toy runs for the kids would be dope too.
word! i'm down for the dues & such. it's only fair for the patches & what not b/c it's not cool for one person to have to front all the $. speaking of tools & what not, e, don't buy a stand (unless you already have, then nevermind). there's a nice stand on eGay that'll work for you, me, marc & maybe lance for a reasonable price. it works for both spooled & non-spooled rides. i'm gonna need to change out my sprockets & chain soon too, so i was looking.
any suggested due amounts? $5 per month per member, $10? it's gotta be easy, i don't want this getting heavy, you know?
"my momma said" not to say anything unless you have something nice to say....but i'm gonna try, especially since we have the same mama and i've never really heard her say that.
given our history, & the demanding responsibilities we all have(some more than others :-), the time & money they demand, etc... i think that would not really work.
we can barely get together to ride and when we have free time all we want to do is to ride, at least i do. i know the intention is great and i'm down for my peeps but i think if we do anything it should be as simple as possible. for instance, if we decide to purchase something that would benefit the crew, we can research it, make a decision and split the bill, figure out where to keep it, etc...for instance, i think a tire change set up would do us all some good. but maybe not, after we see all the parts we would need to cover everyone's bike. i figure two separate beed breakers would cover the range of tires but not sure about the balancers, etc... a compressor might be a good look though.
anyway, monthly dues, i'm not down for. tell me how much the patches and stickers cost, if i need to pick it up, what i need to bring, and where we are riding to next, and i'm down, ya'll know that. i obviously don't have any problems spending loot when it comes to bikes.
but, if we do toy runs, i will have to carry the majority of toys since i have the suv bike with all the luggage capacity, which is cool, as long as the place we go to is far enough for a nice ride... not coney island or some shit like that...
my .02
right on shadow! toy runs and bike washing/tune up fundraisers. something i was realy thinking about was having an annual ride somewhere, we could save funds for that too.
lance,
you're probably right. i think maybe just getting some stands & a tire changer would be dope. if we split the cost amongst all of us, we could make it cheaper than paying someone to change just 1 set of tires.
Like I said, i'm down for anything, dues or no dues but what I'm not down for is handling all the organizing
& logistics. I got my hands full as it is planning rides and such.
So when it's time to pay for patches & stickers, just tell me and I'll hand over the loot.
where do you think we would run into difficulty? the collection of dues, allocation of funds, control of the whole damn thing? maybe we can at least have a discussion about it.
how bout we discuss it at the bike wash thing we were talking about? lets make that happen. it was E's idea, we decided on the spot, the weather is starting to be consistent, lets find a day we can all link up.
whatever we do, it has to be as simple as possible. if i have to remember to pay one more thing every month or remember another password, monthly meeting, weekly conference call, or something trivial like that, i'm just gonna pack up my bike and ride somewhere far...
my plants will die, the bank will foreclose on my crib...we don't want that.
that's a great idea. we are gonna have it at my spot, right? i know your heavy day is sunday, sultan, and a lot of cat's work saturday. this weekend is out, there's gonna be a wedding shower at my place on sat afternoon, and sunday i'll be doing the bike tour witha bunch of guys from work, unless you guys can make it sun night. though i know romantic commitments are pressing.
i'm in class this sunday all day i think so it would have to be after 5 or 5ish. future sundays i could do early afternoon maybe, depending on how i set up my schedule. what time do you get off from work on saturday E?
Shadow, what about you on friday, what time you get off?
i get off on fridays, or any other day for that matter, around 3.00.
hmmm, friday might could work... but not this friday as i'm in class!
yaaaayyy, you've got mail!
Well I am not down with the dues for the reasons that were already mentioned. I think it is best to find out were it makes sense to be a collective and not. For instance, I can not use the stand you all can. So that won't work. My bike is a pain in the ass and shares no common genetic material with any other bike on the planet, cause I got a stupid Ducati S2R 800 from 2005 which basically means it is expensive!
As for wash day. I am down. I spent 2 hours cleaning my bike yesterday. It was cool, talking to her and checking out her ass... getting all up in it. It can still use a lot more, as I have neglected the bike all winter long. I could also use your advice on how to clean some parts, as basically I wanted to wash her in WD40, but resisted cause that did not seem like a wise thing to do at the end. In other words, I am clueless as to how to take care of my bike...
I got a long ass screw stuck in my back tire and now need to do something about it. Will most likely get a plug for it, but won't feel all that comfortable riding it. So most likely will order a tire. Of course I am broke as a poor man's joke, so it will have to happen next week. Hence why more responsibilities for me needs to happen on a specific need base. Does that make sense?
It seems that when I buy something for my bike, something else goes wrong. I got the Rev'it jacket at Ducati Soho, cause Fabian hooked me up and maxed out the card and now this screw happened... errr.... Plus my bike is mad expensive to maintain as is.
$5 plug it baby and ride her. make sure they plug it with enough meat though.
ask willy, the mechanic on the upper east side that Jinx goes to, see what he says about the tire and how safe it is. get him to plug it for u. or go to a local bike shop in bk and see what they are talking about.
actually, Jinx, what did he charge you to change your tires?
it would have been a traight $130 for the tire swap (a damn good deal IMHO), but my inner tubes were jacked and had to get new ones, retail (of course, he's not a saint), plus an oil change, new filter and full synthetic (amsoil, the good stuff $$$), was $270 plus tip. hot shit, willy is the man.
see, $130 + every time each of us has to change un-recycled rubber, not including the cost of the tires. my last set ran me $430 or something like that including everything.
and if we do this, maybe we can set up a conscious method of recycling the tires.
