Cool video... question for you folks - I know when I was learing to ride mtn bikes the greatest leaps in learning happened when I followed a really good rider so I was able to "copy" their body language and line through the turn. Fast forward a buch of years... Now I'm on a motorbike and I tend to ride up front all the time not having the benefit of using someone else's line through the corner, instead, I get to choose my own line which I think is usually the fastest (please correct me if I'm wrong). Anyhow, I feel like my riding technique on a motorcycle is really pretty good considering the amount of time I've been riding. True, I don't drag my knees(yet) but that will come soon enough. So my question - for the folks that are behind me whilst going down the twisties... do I do what's recommended in the video? As in, lean the head/ upper body in addition to my butt/knee? I feel like I am but w/o feedback it's hard to tell...
WS-thanks for the video man, that was really cool! E-this is all new to me and even when mtn biking i never learned proper techniques, i just used my bk street skills to make it thru...guess that's why i wasn't so good...fuck it though, i'll continue to blame my bike being too small and having my seat post too high... but to answer your question, i would think you do more of what the rider was doing before the instruction...in other words, i see your ass slide off more than your shoulders being dropped but even that seems to vary at times. i didn't really know what to look for but i have watched your technique & if you need a correction i'd say it would be a minor one. i follow your line when i am behind you and it seems like the fastest one but sometimes it is hard to tell because i am cheesing so much my helmet rises and obstructs my vision (j/k, that would be dangerous) personally i find that the left banks are more uncomfortable for me than the right. "i'll never be an ambi-turner!"
side note-it is mad frickin' windy right now! and what was up with the sun snow showers today?
yeah, those sun snow showers were fucking bull shit! where'd that come from?
e, it's hard for me to remember exactly how much you do or don't move your body with your ass b/c the last few times we've ridden i was so paranoid about cinders, salt or water on the roads that i'm too pre-occupied to look at your body position. i do remember way back in the fall/winter that you were leaning your ass a little too much, but wait...wait...yeah, you've just about remedied that from the last time i can really remember. i know i need to work on my body positioning & want this brick ass weather to warm up so that i can ride without being so focused on just staying warm or the road conditions.
speaking of which, i'm up for a short ride around bk tomorrow...i don't think i can handle a day of 40 degrees, b/c i'm feeling pretty run down & would probably get sick. but, i still want to ride, so let me know.
First, I want to say "Hello!" I've been MIA so you guys probably don't know who I am, but hey! First off...E-I've only ridden with you one time and we really couldn't "get it in," in order for me to peep your body positioning. But I DO look forward to riding with you guys! I liked the video because in my opinion he stressed something important and that was the concept of hanging off. I was one of those people who twisted my body as I tried to lean further. I recently attended the Schwantz racing school. Check out www.schwantzschool.com. What I learned was pretty much what I saw in the video. Schwantz's philosophy was to get half of your butt off the seat and using the fork tubes as your center, move your upper body to where your nipple was in line with the fork tube. For example if you were leaning to the right, your left nipple should be in line with the right fork tube. Don't forget to countersteer! By the way, he really didn't use nipples in his teachings. I just made that up myself...lol! Look out for more info from me...
One more note...it was also stressed that dragging your knee was nothing more than a tool to give you a comfort zone. In his opinion, dragging your knee gives the rider a sense of how close he is to the ground. Also in his opinion, two people could take a corner at the same lean angle and in the same position and one could have a knee down while the other didn't. "I don't know, but I've been told!"...
yeah well, just don't forget to wear your leathers and knee sliders. i don't have any so i won't be trying to drag my kneecaps on the ground anytime soon. thanks for the body positioning tips though. if it wasn't 40 degrees outside..........
the only lean I am going to get is my: " lean back..." What FAT JOSE?!
Just for all ya heads: See my niggas don't dance, See we just pull up the pants and, Do the Roc-a-way. Now lean back, lean back, lean back, lean back. I said my niggas don't dance, See we just pull up the pants and, Do the Roc-a-way. Now lean back, lean back, lean back, lean back.
[Verse 2 - Remy] R to the E'zzy', M to the Y'iz', My arms stay breezy, The Don's stay fizzi, Got a date, the day I was in the 740'izzi', And I just bought a bike so I can ride til' I die,
I have no idea what any of this means, I just wanted to share the last line... well not the entire line, just the part until he says: "so I can ride..."
